The FIFA World Cup 2022 is almost upon us! And what a tournament it promises to be, with 32 of the world’s best teams descending on Qatar to battle it out for the most coveted prize in football. One of the Round of 16 fixtures sees Japan take on Costa Rica at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor.
This promises to be an intriguing encounter between two very different sides.
Japan are one of Asia’s powerhouse nations and always produce a disciplined and well-organised team. They qualified for this tournament by topping their group in the Asian qualifiers, ahead of Saudi Arabia and Australia.
In recent years they have made it to the last 16 of both the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, so they will be looking to go one better this time around.
Costa Rica, on the other hand, are relative minnows on the global stage. But they proved at the 2014 World Cup that they should not be underestimated, as they reached the quarter-finals before being narrowly beaten by Holland in a penalty shoot-out.
They again qualified impressively for this tournament, finishing second behind Mexico in CONCACAF’s Hexagonal qualifying group.

Fifa World Cup 2022 Qualifiers Europe
The FIFA World Cup is an international association football competition contested by the senior men’s national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Football Association , the sport’s global governing body. The championship has been awarded every four years since the first tournament in 1930, except in 1942 and 1946 when it was not held because of the Second World War. The current champion is France, which won its second title at the 2018 tournament in Russia.
A total of 32 teams play in the final tournament, including 31 teams determined through qualifying competitions and the automatically qualified host team. A qualification process starts from September 2020 to November 2021 to determine 31 of these teams. All 210 remaining member associations are divided into six separate pots based on their FIFA World Rankings as of October 2019 (shown in parentheses below), with one team per pot promoted to League A and five teams per pot relegated to League D for 2022–24.
From each league, four groups are formed consisting of three or four teams each (teams again placed into respective pots according to their FIFA World Ranking as of December 2020).
The fixtures were released on 7 December 2020, with matches set to take place between 11 June and 1 July 2022.

FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers Asia: India’s fixtures and venues
The FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in Qatar from November 21st to December 18th, 2022. The qualifiers for the tournament will begin in June 2021 and conclude in November 2022.
A total of 80 teams will compete in the qualifiers, with Asia allotted 10 places in the final tournament.
India have been placed in Group E of the Asian qualifiers alongside Oman, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Qatar (the latter two as hosts). The Indian team will play their first match of the qualifiers on June 3rd, 2021 away to Oman.
They will then host Bangladesh on June 7th before travelling to Doha to take on Qatar on June 15th. The fourth and final fixture of the group stage will see India take on Afghanistan at home on June 19th.
All of India’s matches in the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers will be played at either the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar or the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
This decision was taken by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) after due consultation with head coach Igor Stimac and his technical staff.
The top two teams from each of the eight groups across Asia will qualify automatically for the FIFA World Cup finals while the remaining third-placed sides will compete in a playoff round for another spot at Qatar 2022.
Next Fifa World Cup
The next FIFA World Cup will be held in Qatar in 2022. This will be the first time that the World Cup will be held in the Arab world. Qatar was selected as the host country by FIFA’s executive committee in 2010.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
This will be a very different World Cup than what we are used to seeing. For one, it will be held in the winter instead of the summer due to Qatar’s extreme heat during that time of year.
Additionally, all of the matches will be played within a 28-day period instead of the usual 32 days because of concerns about player fatigue and injury. And finally, because Qatar is a small country with limited resources, most of the stadiums that will be used for the tournament are being built from scratch.
All of these changes are sure to make for an interesting and unique World Cup experience.
I, for one, am looking forward to seeing how everything plays out.
Fifa World Cup 2020
The 2020 FIFA World Cup is an upcoming international football tournament. It is scheduled to take place in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December 2020. This will be the first World Cup held in the Arab world and the first in a Muslim-majority country.
The tournament will be the second to be held entirely in Asia after the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan. The 2022 FIFA World Cup will also be held in Qatar, making it the first country to host consecutive men’s World Cups.
Qatar was selected as the host nation by FIFA’s Executive Committee on 2 December 2010, during their meeting in Zurich, Switzerland.
It was chosen ahead of bids from Australia, Japan, South Korea and United States. Qatar beat out joint bids from Canada, Mexico and the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup; however, concerns have been raised over how well suited Qatar is for hosting a major sporting event due to its small size and lack of experience with top-level football competitions. There have also been allegations of corruption surrounding Qatar’s successful bid; these are being investigated by FIFA’s Ethics Committee.
The format of the competition has not yet been decided but it is likely that 32 teams will compete for the title at venues across Qatar.
Conclusion
Both Japan and Costa Rica are qualified for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. This will be their first meeting in a competitive match. The game will take place at the Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar on June 5th, 2022.
Both teams have strong fan bases and are expected to put on a good show.
